Meet our Vasectomy Heroes
Vasectomy: Australian Men's Perspective
Findings from the independent research ("Australian Men's Attitudes to Contraception and Vasectomy") indicate that:
- Around a quarter of men (24%) believe that having a vasectomy is ‘really painful’;
- 9% of men believe that a vasectomy reduces testosterone levels;
- 7% of men believe a vasectomy increases the risk of testicular or prostate cancer;
- 7% of men believe it affects sexual enjoyment;
- 6% of men believe it results in an inability to ejaculate / orgasm;
- only 50% of men said they had ever discussed contraception and sexual health with their GP; and
- only 39% of men aged 18-29 have spoken to a GP on the issue of contraception and sexual health.
With the help of our vasectomy heroes – Matt, Darren and Andrew – we’d love to put these myths to rest! A vasectomy procedure is virtually pain free, quick and safe and there is no lengthy recovery. In fact, most men who have a procedure on a Friday can be back at work on Monday. Sex can often be better post procedure also, due to the spontaneity and lack of contraception logistics.
Our vasectomy heroes can be seen talking about their procedures by clicking on their photos below:
